Brand Space Detroit: Visual Identity Design

Brand Space Detroit is a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of designers, makers, and creative entrepreneurs shaping Metro Detroit’s design landscape. Through interviews, visual storytelling, and community spotlights, they bring the region’s creative scene to life.

Brand Space Detroit sought a full brand identity system that would establish a strong, cohesive visual presence while reflecting the city’s rich design culture. The project included:

The Challenge

The challenge was to create a brand identity that felt modern yet timeless, sophisticated yet approachable—one that resonated with Detroit’s diverse and dynamic creative community. The design needed to be versatile for digital and print applications while maintaining a distinct visual language.

The Solution

Logo & Iconography

The final logo design features clean, bold typography that exudes confidence and professionalism while maintaining a creative edge. The supporting iconography was designed to be flexible across different applications, reinforcing Brand Space Detroit’s identity without overpowering the primary brand elements.

Color Palette

A carefully curated color palette was selected to balance warmth, sophistication, and versatility. The final colors included:

  • Deep Olive Green – Representing growth and creativity

  • Muted Sage Green – A soft, organic tone for balance

  • Dusty Mauve – Adding a sophisticated, artistic touch

  • Warm Caramel – Bringing warmth and approachability

  • Soft Cream – A neutral grounding tone

  • Charcoal Gray – Providing depth and contrast

Typography System

The brand identity uses a combination of Lato, Playfair Display, and Reglo to achieve a balance of modernity and elegance. Lato was chosen for its clean, readable structure, Playfair Display adds a touch of sophistication, and Reglo provides a unique character for standout elements. This typography system was designed for flexibility, allowing for dynamic layouts in various brand materials.

Marketing Collateral

To ensure consistency in Brand Space Detroit’s visual communication, I designed a sleek, professional business card, a one-page informational flyer, and an email signature. These assets were designed to be both visually appealing and highly functional.
